Are chemicals necessary in a pool or hot tub?
Yes. Not only will correct water treatment make the water safe to use but if you keep up chemical maintenance then your water will last much longer until you need to replace it.

Pool & hot tub chemical handling
- Never use unlabelled chemicals and please read the instructions before use.
- Wear protective clothing such as gloves and eye protection to avoid getting chemicals in eyes, on skin or on clothing.
- Avoid breathing vapours when opening a container.
- Always pre‑dissolve chemicals in a clean, plastic container in a well‑ventilated area. When pre‑dissolving chemicals always add chemicals to water and not vice versa. Always add the chemicals to the water.
- Never mix different chemicals in concentrated forms.
- Never mix different chemicals in water at the same time.
- Use separate clean dry utensils for each chemical and clean after use.
- Do not add the product to any dispensing device containing residuals of other products.
- Clean up spillages immediately and don't add water to spilled chemicals.
- Do not attempt to reseal any contaminated drums.
- Do not transport wet or damp material.
Storing Chemicals
- Safe Storage - Keep your chemicals in cool and dry place, away from children and pets
- Away from Sunlight and Humidity- your chemicals need to be stored out of direct sunlight and away from humidity - this can be pool or hot tu water splases, rain and even a damp shed.
- Well Ventilated Area - dry chemicals can still give off fumes and when multiple chemicals are stored in close proximity to each other, certain chemical fumes may create a hazardous reaction when combined.
- Store Safely - Avoid stacking different chemicals on top of each, don't place them above head height or on the floor and keep away from fire or flammable items.
- Always keep chemicals in their original packaging
General Safety
- Do not consume any food or drink whilst handling chemicals.
- Do not smoke when handling chemicals
- If fumes are inhaled, immediately get some fresh air
- If chemicals get in eyes, immediately rinse carefully with water for several minutes. Seek medical advice if eye irritation persists.
- If chemicals are swallowed, immediately seek medical advice/attention or call a poison centre.
- Check safety warning on packaging before using.
